Picnic of the Pig at Lola Coastal Mexican

Lola Coastal Mexican is turning LoHi into a bona fide Mexican beach party on Cinco de Mayo. The Picnic of the Pig—now in its tenth year—will bring together Lola and its neighbor LOW Country Kitchen for an all-day block party-style fiesta. There will be a variety of dishes, beer from The Post Brewing CompanyMilagro Tequila margaritas, live music, live luchador wrestling, a Kentucky Derby watch party, and face painting for the kiddos. The entire block of Boulder Street between 15th Street and 16th Street will be closed off, with a stage set up on one end and a wrestling ring set up on the other.

The party starts early at 12:o0 p.m. Guests will get to enjoy a variety of pork-centric dishes in different styles—coastal Mexican from Lola and Southern from LOW. Music and luchador wrestling will also kick off at noon, with a rotating lineup of bands headlined by local legends iZCALLi and wrestling matches by Rocky Mountain Pro Wrestling. LOW will host a Kentucky Derby watch party at 4:00 p.m. with mint juleps, Post beer, and pulled pork biscuits.

"Picnic of the Pig has always been a celebration,” says Lola Owner / Executive Chef Jamey Fader. “Spring, friends, great food and drink, big smiles . . . a grand house party to set off the season. We've always dreamed of bringing it to the streets so that it's not just about Lola, but about the neighborhood coming to together as well. Thanks to our GM Ben Huckaby and Chef Julio Gaspar we are finally realizing that dream and excited, along with our neighbors and guests, to throw a block party with a festival feel."

Both restaurants will also be open for brunch and dinner. Lola will have a full brunch menu at 10:00 a.m. and then a limited Picnic menu for dinner. LOW will have full brunch starting at 10:30 a.m. and then a  full dinner menu later in the evening.

This year, the Kentucky Derby also happens to fall on May 5, so LOW Country Kitchen is hosting a rooftop patio watch party at 4:00 (the race starts at 4:46 p.m.) with $6 Classic Tom Collins & Mint Juleps and $5 Pulled Pork Biscuit with Southern Slaw.

Entry into Picnic of the Pig is free to all. Food and drinks will be sold a la carte.
